About the producer, Brancaia :

The history of Brancaia began in 1980 when the Widmer family, of Swiss origin, bought the Podere Brancaia in Castellina in Chianti as a summer residence in Tuscany. Bruno and Brigitte Widmer decided to produce only wines of the highest quality. What began as a hobby then, has grown steadily over the past 40 years to become one of the most important wineries in Tuscany.

In addition to the first Podere Brancaia, Podere Poppi in Radda in Chianti was purchased in 1989 and Podere Brancaia in Maremma, a few kilometers from the sea, was purchased in 1998. Today, Brancaia has 40 hectares of vineyards in the Chianti Classico production area and 40 in Maremma, with wine cellars in both areas.

Brancaia loves and deeply respects the traditions of the past, but at the same time is not afraid to imagine new and modern approaches.

Organic viticulture has always been central for Brancaia.

For many years they have abandoned the use of herbicides and insecticides, and today they are officially organic in all respects.

Over the past 20 years they have been using green manure crops to protect and enrich soil structure, eliminate weeds and help control insects.

Organic farming practices protect the soil, air, and water and improve the character and quality of the grapes and, therefore, their wines.

The greater the biodiversity, the more resilient and self-regulating a system is.

Organic farming and uncompromising quality are perfectly compatible.

Brancaia wines meet the highest quality standards. The Brancaia team works every day to improve, in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. One of the fundamental principles, which has never lost its value over time, is that only the best grapes can produce great wines.

Brancaia has chosen not to irrigate its vineyards, which receive water supplied by nature. The roots of non-irrigated vines tend to go deeper into the soil, in search of moisture and minerals. Viticulture without irrigation is not only more environmentally friendly, but also produces grapes with an intense flavour and, therefore, complex wines that reflect the characteristics of the soil from which they come. The harvest is done entirely by hand and each vineyard is vinified separately. Their fermentation processes no longer involve the use of selected yeasts and their wines now ferment spontaneously thanks to the wild yeasts present on the fruit and in the cellar.

Brancaia wines best represent the diversity, the uniqueness and the link with the territory of the vineyards. Each Brancaia wine shows harmony and a unique strong identity.
