The “Madonnino saffron from the Lucca hills” farm was born from the passion for saffron of three friends: Ilaria, Maurizio, Ugo. By combining ideas and resources, they realized this project which gave its first harvest in 2018. Why do they have this passion for saffron? It is a spice, coming from the East where it is massively grown, which tells of a fascinating world. Saffron, Crocus Sativus, Red Gold for its value, has a unique color, aroma and flavor. Unquestionably known, it is sought after for use in refined dishes. Their company was born in a corner of Tuscany: the Lucca hills, lands rich in history and traditions, sun and pure air. They were born “in a low voice”, renting land from an elderly farmer who, as often happens in the countryside, has the nickname Madonnino. Here is the ground and here is the name for their saffron: “Madonnino’s saffron from the Lucca hills”. Their desire is to maintain and respect the ancient traditions, creating a strictly organic product, from the careful choice of the purchase of the bulbs, to the tillage, to the collection of flowers during the early hours of the morning, to the drying of the precious pistils .They, therefore, wanted to create a unique and recognizable product: thus succeeding in making saffron.
