The grapes for this unique wine, made from 100% Sangiovese, are exclusively grown on a special hill slope on Poggio Nibbiale. They are handpicked and post-selected prior to vinification.

Morellino Di Scansano Riserva Tommaso Poggio Nibbiale

With this wine Poggio Nibbiale intend to develop the full potential of the indigenous Sangiovese grapes. Consequently, the pure terroir of Poggio Nibbiale – characterized by the close Tyrrhenian sea – emerges most prominently within the Tommaso. The wine ages for 24 months in oak wood barrels of the first and second passagio. With barren elegance, balanced acidity and soft tannins it presents the character and uniqueness of this classic Italian grape variety.

Due to its dense fabric of finest flavours our Tommaso is an exquisite companion for game, red meat and matured cheese.

About The Producer, Poggio Nibbiale :

The Buchheim Family has always dreamt about having a vineyard in Tuscany.

Their long-cherished wish was fulfilled when the wine estate Poggio Nibbiale was founded in 1998.The dream to grow wine amidst the impressive scenery of southern Tuscany became reality.

In the following years thwy started cultivating 11 hectare of land, established a modern winery and restored the medieval cellar from the 13th century below the church of San Giovanni Battista in Scansano.

The estate’s major part is however governed by nature, the Mediterranean macchia with its almost impenetrable vegetation, old cork oaks, genista in full bloom and wild olive trees.

Poggio Nibbiale’s vineyards are located in the hills of the Maremma between Scansano and Magliano in Toscana, 300 meters above the Tyrrhenian Sea with a magnificent view of the Island of Giglio, Elba, Montecristo and the Monte Argentario peninsula.

Right from the start, they decided for organic viniculture and refrained from farming practices that aim primarily at a high yield. It is important for them  to endow the wines with aromatic depth, refinement and complexity.

Poggio Nibbiale philosophy of winemaking is simple: No show but quality, no vogues but sustainability and most importantly: passion, dedication and a true appreciation for our land and its natural riches.

Their passion and dedication has allowed them to create magnificent wines, such as: Morellino Di Scansano, Morellino Di Scansano Riserva Tommaso and Chorus.
